8 Week Tactile PE Programme – Ages 8 to 9
By Key Stage 2, some children still struggle to feel comfortable with physical touch, texture, and contact. They may avoid partner activities, overreact to being touched accidentally, or withdraw from group games. Others may seem restless, distracted, or overly rough during play, as their body struggles to interpret and respond appropriately to sensory feedback. These tactile sensitivities can affect participation, confidence, and relationships with peers.
The 8 Week Tactile PE Programme provides a complete, ready to teach plan that helps 8 to 9 year olds develop calm, positive responses to touch and movement. The games are designed to strengthen the tactile system, helping children feel more secure and grounded in their bodies. Over the course of the programme, pupils learn to process touch sensations more effectively, reduce over-sensitivity, and engage more comfortably with others in shared movement and play.
Ideal for whole class PE, small SEN groups, or enrichment sessions, each lesson follows a consistent three part structure — Activation, Exploration, and Integration — beginning with gentle warm up activities, followed by interactive tactile and movement games, and finishing with calm, grounding exercises that reinforce body awareness and emotional stability.
Each lesson is available in two flexible formats:
- 20 minute lessons for short sessions or warm ups
- 40 minute lessons for full curriculum delivery
The PDF download includes 20 progressive games and movement activities across 8 weekly lesson plans, designed to help teachers support sensory comfort, physical confidence, and social connection. Every activity includes clear learning goals, teacher guidance, and easy to follow instructions, no specialist PE training required. Whether you are a PE lead, class teacher, or support staff, this resource helps you deliver inclusive lessons that nurture calm, confident, and connected learners.
