8 Week Tactile PE Programme – Ages 6 to 7
Some children in Key Stage 1 are easily unsettled by touch or physical contact. They may avoid group games, become distracted by sensations, or react strongly to textures that others don’t notice. These sensitivities can affect focus, confidence, and participation in PE, play, and classroom activities.
The 8 Week Tactile PE Programme provides a complete, ready to teach plan that helps 6 to 7 year olds become more comfortable and confident with touch through structured, enjoyable and creative games. The games are designed to strengthen the tactile system, helping children feel more secure and grounded in their bodies. Over the course of the programme, pupils learn to process touch sensations more effectively, reduce over-sensitivity, and engage more comfortably with others in shared movement and play.
Ideal for whole class PE, small SEN groups, or enrichment sessions, each lesson follows a consistent three part structure — Activation, Exploration, and Integration — beginning with gentle warm up games, followed by sensory-based movement exploration, and finishing with calm, grounding exercises that reinforce comfort and control.
Each lesson is available in two flexible formats:
- 20 minute lessons for short sessions or warm ups
- 40 minute lessons for full curriculum delivery
The PDF download includes 21 progressive games and movement activities across 8 weekly lesson plans, designed to promote comfort with touch, sensory balance, and physical confidence. Every activity includes clear learning goals, teacher guidance, and easy to follow instructions, no specialist PE training required. Whether you are a PE lead, class teacher, or support staff, this resource helps you deliver inclusive, effective lessons that support both sensory and physical development.
