8 Week Primitive and Postural Reflexes PE Programme – Ages 6 to 7
Many teachers notice that some pupils in Key Stage 1 still struggle to control their body effectively during movement and seated activities. They may slouch, fidget, or lean on desks, tire quickly, or find it difficult to balance or coordinate actions smoothly. These signs can indicate retained primitive or postural reflexes, which affect balance, stability, and attention.
The 8 Week Primitive and Postural Reflexes PE Programme provides a complete, ready to teach plan that helps 6 to 7 year olds develop postural strength, control, and coordination through structured movement. The activities are designed to gently support the integration of early reflex patterns, improving balance, stability, and concentration. Over the course of the programme, pupils learn to move and sit with greater ease, confidence, and focus — key foundations for learning and participation in PE and classroom tasks.
Ideal for whole class PE, small SEN groups, or enrichment sessions, each lesson follows a consistent three part structure — Activation, Exploration, and Integration — beginning with purposeful warm up games, followed by creative balance and coordination activities, and finishing with focused postural control exercises.
Each lesson is available in two flexible formats:
- 20 minute lessons for short sessions or warm ups
- 40 minute lessons for full curriculum delivery
The PDF download includes 25 progressive games and movement activities across 8 weekly lesson plans, designed to strengthen balance, body awareness, and coordination. Every activity includes clear learning goals, teacher guidance, and easy to follow instructions, no specialist PE training required. Whether you are a PE lead, class teacher, or support staff, this resource helps you deliver inclusive, effective PE that builds the physical and postural foundations for confident learning and play.
